Italian Pianist, Conductor, Composer and MusicologistGianandrea Gavazzeni was an Italian pianist, conductor (mostly in opera), composer, and musicologist.
He was born in Bergamo, Italy.
He may have been born years ago, but his cranky, private, reserved, melancholy facade still lingers in Italy.
His father was a lawyer and a member of parliament who appreciated and understood music and opera. Gavazzeni was introduced to the theater stage by his mother. His grandmother, who often took him to the opera, also played a significant role in his development.
Gavazzeni studied at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and later enrolled at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Music in Milan in 1925.
His teachers included Renzo Lorenzoni, Vincenzo Ferroni, Ildebrando Pizzetti, and Mario Pilati. From 1948, Gavazzeni held the position of the leading conductor at the legendary La Scala opera house in Milan for almost 50 years. From 1966 to 1968, he serv
