          Julia Weed Baldwin, 101, died on January 3, 2024.

          She was born on August 5, 1922, in an unairconditioned hospital in St.

          Augustine to parents Elizabeth Gibbs Weed and Joseph Dunning Weed. Her father and his brother-in-law George Gibbs ran a shipyard on the Jacksonville waterfront.

          5. Julia attended West Riverside School and John B. Gorrie Junior High School, graduating from Bartram School in its third class with seven other girls. She then attended Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1944.

          A political science major in college, she remembered first voting for Franklin D. Roosevelt.

          Following her graduation from UNC, she returned home to live with her parents and worked as a social worker for the American Red Cross during World War II.

          Like many of her generation, she remembered the energy and patriotic spirit of wartime Jacksonville with its military bases operating at full tilt. She m
